Software Currently Under Development at SAL

Geoda

GeoDa is a free software program that serves as an introduction to spatial data analysis.  We are currently developing a cross-platform, open source version of the program (OpenGeoDa) that will run on Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.  It is written in C++.

OpenGeoDa will contain all of the features of the current version of GeoDa (including spatial lag and error models and the current spatial diagnostics) plus several new features, including:

  • Inverse distance weights
  • A bivariate map movie
  • Additional map options, e.g., equal interval, unique value, and natural break maps
    map panning

The release of this software is planned in the near future.  It will be announced on this website, on GeoDa's homepage and on the Openspace mailing list.  Additional spatial regression functionality is planned for subsequent updates.

PySAL

The PySAL project consists of a collaborative effort to develop open source software in Python in order to implement spatial statistical methods.

In the near future, Python code will be available to apply smoothing and clustering methods. As soon as it is available, it will be announced on the Openspace mailing list and on this website.  Spatial regression code in Python continues to be under development and will be announced in the same forums.
